What's a Bill of Sale Template (Generic)

A bill to sell is a legal form that is used to transfer personal property, such as vehicles, boats, guns, and so on, to another individual or entity in return for cash or a trade-in item. A signed bill of sale document is often required in many states to complete a car or boat registration process.

Each party of the transaction should sign and keep a copy of the Bill of Sale that has been completed and signed. This document will serve as proof of purchase. A Bill of Sale is usually used for a transaction in which payment has been made in full, and the item is accepted as is. That means the seller will sell the item in its current condition, and the buyer will accept it without any warranties. This clause protects the seller against refunds for any item issues after the buyer has paid and obtained the item being sold.

In most states, it is recommended for the buyer to sign the document as well, but it is not mandatory. This is because of the different laws in each state. It's important that you check the local laws before you ask the buyer to sign the bill of sale. But, in most cases, It is recommended to have the buyer sign the form as well.
